How the squad was picked

Selections

Blue Lock is a sequence of eliminations. 300 strikers went in and 23 came out the other side into the Japan U-20 squad. These are the rounds that did the cutting, each with its rule, its table and the players it sent home.

1. 1

   Dormitory Test

   The entrance test. 300 players were split into 25 rooms of 12 and played one game of tag. Each room lost a player.

2. 2

   First Selection

   Twenty-five teams played a round robin inside five stratums. Two teams per stratum went through, plus the leading scorer of each team that did not.

3. 3

   Second Selection

   Four stages, from a solo shooting test to team games where the winners took a player off the losers. A team had to reach five to clear.

   Third Selection

   The 35 remaining strikers played the World Five, then chose which of the top six to line up beside. Eleven were picked for the match against Japan U-20.

   Wild Card

   A second and final chance for players already eliminated. One came through.

   Neo Egoist League

   The final selection. Blue Lock players joined five European clubs, played a round robin between them, and were ranked by what clubs bid for them.
