The rule
Format
- Buratsuta agreed to fund Blue Lock TV in exchange for choosing the final three players on Japan’s U-20 squad, the last spots PIFA’s 26-man limit allows.
- Buratsuta’s own candidates have to pass an evaluation he sets and hand him control of their professional careers.
- Sae Itoshi was given one of the three seats directly, skipping those conditions, after Japan drew a hard group in the World Cup group stage.
- 301 entrants were divided into 25 teams of 12, with one team of 13, for an entrance test called Bird Cage, run during the group stage and broadcast on Blue Lock TV.
- One player was chosen in turn to pick a partner; together the pair became the "birds".
- The rest formed a cage and had to pass the ball between themselves for 136 seconds without the birds stealing it.
- A bird pair that stole the ball advanced; a pair that failed joined the cage, and a new pair was chosen.
- Only the first three pairs to succeed advanced.
Getting through
The two winners join Sae Itoshi and the Blue Lock Eleven on Japan’s U-20 squad. Jinpachi Ego opposes playing either of them and has said he will not, regardless of the rule that lets them in.
